Phwef. Receive what you need.

Hi, if you're expecting your first baby and are feeling overwhelmed by all the things that there are to do to get ready for baby, you've come to the right spot. Our goal here is to help you get ready for baby with style and ease. Make sure you join our free newsletter so you won't miss a thing. Thanks for visiting!

You have worries.  We know you do.  We were once there too.

Your mom’s aunt Sue might sent you something in bright purple polyester.

The girls at work are going to throw you a baby shower and buy you some Baby Versace item that you’ll be too terrified to actually use.

You are going to receive every gift in size 0-3 months and be completely out of clothes before your bay reaches 12 pounds.

We know.  We were there once too.

So, in our quest to bring back the joy of dressing your little sweet peanut, we’ve just launched the gift registry section of our site.

How great is that?

1. Create a registry or two.  Name one for your office shower, another for family and yet another for baby’s first birthday?

2. Browse our collections and just click the “add to registry” beside each item.

3. Announce your registry to friends and family.

4. Achieve peace of mind and the items you really need.

Tugged Heart Strings and Weak Knees

I love, love the ages and sexes of my children.  I have always felt that a year is sufficiently long for each age and have always eagerly looked forward to the changes and stages of the next age to come.  And, I cannot imagine my life without boys.

There are only two things that ever happen that unexpectedly pull on my heart strings (or uterus?!) that tear me away from the sexes and current ages of my children.  And, they are two things that most often catch me completely out of the blue.

The first one is little girls in pig-tails.  I have boys.  I will never “do hair”.  When I’m sitting in a coffee shop, picking my children up from school or standing expectantly at the door in the community centre my heart catches at the sight of pig tails.

The second is breast-feeding.  Whenever I see I baby breast feeding my knees go weak.  I yearn to wrap my big boys up in my arms and feel their hearts beating against mine.  I remember immediately the sweet sighing sounds they made and the way their little fingers would reach for my hand or my hair and we would sink into the snuggle together.

In my late night indulgence of drooling over royal wedding photos ( *sigh* that dress),  this beautiful photo of Miranda Kerr nursing her young baby Flynn had their effect on the afore mentioned heart strings and knees.  I thought I would share it with you.

How old was your child when you weaned him or her?  Was the timing your idea or your baby’s?

What you really need to do is. . . .

Some days I felt like this wasn’t a big pregnant belly sticking out in front of me.  Instead, I felt like it was an enormous sign saying, “Please give me all your advice”.

Well  meaning strangers would corner me in the produce section of the grocery store to debate the merits of cloth versus disposable diapers.  While waiting in line at the ATM I had a woman ask me if I planned on breast feeding, and then went on to tell me her personal saga of cracked and bleeding nipples and the miracle cream she found to save them.

I smiled tightly.

I nodded.

Friends were great for advice.

They said things like:

Make sure you get a stroller with two handles.  They’re the best”.

“Make sure you get a stroller with the one bar handle.  You’ll spill your coffee if you don’t”.

“Don’t let the baby fall asleep in your arms.  He’ll never go to sleep on his own if you do”.

“Let the baby fall asleep with you.  It’ll help him form attachment”.

Some advice is about small things.  Some is about big things.  All of it tends to be well meaning.

Big or small, what’s the one piece of advice you received that you found yourself following?

Roses are Red and Violets are Blue

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I’m glad you’re my baby
I’ll clean up your poo

You’re teeth they are few
You make me feel new
You know the cow says moo

You make my heart go woo-hoo

Any suggestions for the last line?

One of the loviest pieces of advice we every received was the idea to write a Valentine’s Day note to our baby and store it as a future keep sake.

(Perhaps a stack of 18+ Valentine’s Day cards will stop him from heading to a college to far away).

From Aiden to Braden and Madison to Addison

In the year 2005 the name Noah sprang up the charts into the number 10 spot for most popular name for boys. Was the rainfall heavier than usual and people were dreaming or arcs? Doubtful. Most “experts” agree that the year 2005 coincided with the topping of the charts by TV show, ER and it’s hunky, sweet and lovable star, Noah Wylie.

Even while ER has gone off the airwaves, the name Noah has not left the top 10 list and remains solid at number 3 for 2010.

Over the years for girls, Olivia and Isabelle have held their place of honour in the top 10, and 2010 saw the climbing of popularity of Addison and Charlotte and at long least the decrease in popularity of Emma.

Click here to see the most popular names for 2010 and use the drop down menu for past years to 2001.

Did the popular name choices of the year influence your naming decision?
